Knee blocks

WHAT IS?

This technique involves infiltrating a medication (local anaesthetic, a corticoid, hyaluronic acid or platelet-rich plasma) into the knee joint using a needle.

WHEN IS IT RECOMMENDED?

It is used to treat mechanical pain generally caused by osteoarthritis.

HOW IS IT PERFORMED?

It is a painless technique, performed in about 5-10 minutes using little local anaesthesia. There are two types of block: diagnostic (to locate the origin of the pain), with local anaesthetic and temporary effect, or therapeutic (for pain treatment) with a steroid or steroid or hyaluronic acid and longer lasting effect.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE I START THE TREATMENT?

We will indicate if you need to suspend any medication temporarily as well as previous hours of fasting.

DO I NEED TO GO WITH SOMEONE?

Not necessary, although recommendable. You will be able to go on your feet after the treatment.

RECOMMENDATIONS AFTER THE TREATMENT

Relative rest, normal activity, no physical exertion.

WILL I EXPERIENCE DISCOMFORT AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Occasionally, a temporary pain.
